Our commitment to community care & safer spaces - Queer Spirit festival 2026

Welcome home.

Queer Spirit festival is a gathering place for spiritually minded LGBTQI+ people and our allies from all races, all genders, all sexualities, all ages. We come together to celebrate our diverse identities, heal, and build community in a "liberating realm of freedom of self-expression."

This policy is our shared agreement to protect the magic of this space. It is a commitment to caring for ourselves, each other, and the container that allows our transformation to happen. We operate from a Premise of Oneness, recognising our common humanity, while deeply honouring the diversity of our experiences.

To co-create a brave, compassionate, and truly liberating space for all of us, we agree to the following principles:

1. Consent is our sacred foundation

This is a space to explore, but never at the expense of another. Ask before touching, entering someone's personal space, or engaging in any physical interaction. This includes being mindful in clothing-optional areas and during all workshops, ceremonies, and informal gatherings. Respect a "no" or a withdrawn "yes" with grace. This applies to conversations and the sharing of sensitive topics too.

2. Challenge all forms of oppression

Queer Spirit has a zero-tolerance approach to all discrimination. Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, bi-phobia, ableism, and other forms of oppression are harmful and will be addressed.

  • We are committed to being an actively anti-racist space. We stand against the exploitation of Global Majority cultures and are dedicated to ensuring that practices are shared only by those with the cultural authority to do so.
  • Avoid using slurs or terms that are not your own to reclaim.

3. Embody radical inclusion & accessibility

We are an intersectional and inter-generational community. Make space for marginalised voices to be heard. Use clear, accessible language. Be aware that not everyone has the same access needs; offer support and be open to requests. Provide content or trigger warnings before facilitating discussions on potentially upsetting topics.

4. Uphold privacy & confidentiality

This is a place where many are exploring and expressing their truth. For some, this might be new or private. Do not share others' personal information, images, or stories without their explicit consent, especially on social media. Respect that not everyone is "out" in their daily lives. What is shared in the circle, stays in the circle.

5. Practice accountability & transformative justice

We are all learning. If you cause harm, even unintentionally, we ask you to listen, reflect, and take accountability. We are committed to transformative justice, to addressing harm with care, accountability, and support so that everyone involved has the chance to move toward repair and growth as a community. Our organisers are here to guide and support this process.

6. Contribute to community care

Queer Spirit is built on the labour and gifts of our community. Show appreciation for the work of others, as organisers, facilitators, crew, and fellow attendees. Contribute what you can, whether it's a helping hand, a kind word, or simply your open-hearted presence. Socialising is encouraged, but never mandatory; it's okay to rest and tend to your own needs.

We're here to celebrate our queer and spiritual identities, to learn, to heal, and to dance. If you have any questions, concerns, or need support during the festival, please reach out to a member of the Queer Spirit organising team. We are here for you. Let's make this an empowering and transformative experience for all.
